The 6th grade girls basketball team end their season with a record of 6-2, finishing in second place as they lose to Seckman in the championship game 16-10.
The championship game was an exciting game with Seckman scoring first, after that the first period was all Dupo. #41 Savannah Maldonado scored 4 quick points giving Dupo their first lead of the game. Halfway through the period at 10:03 Seckman tied the game. #13 Megan Brown answered right back with 2 points, and late in the period #40 Leia Campbell scored 2 points to give Dupo an 8-4 lead to finish out the first half.
The first half was slow paced, however, Dupo had their shooting chances but the ball just couldn’t find its way through the net. Dupo played good off the boards, rebounding most of the shots. Seckman played a full court press throughout the whole half causing Dupo a little trouble in ball control. Dupo also missed all of their free throws in the first half. Even with having problems with handling the ball and missing their free throws, it appeared Dupo was poised to take control in the second half as they did in the first half.
The second half started out much like the first, then Seckman picked up the pace with some fast breaks tying the score at 8-8. Ball control plagued Dupo once again as Seckman continued their full court press throughout the entire second half. Seckman scored 12 unanswered points before Dupo could get on the board by #13 Megan Brown with a free throw. “With better ball control and hitting our free throws, the outcome would have been different,” say coach Donald. “I am very proud of the girls accomplishment, they have come a long way,” concluded coach Donald.
The Dupo girls played with a lot of heart, giving all they had, but just came up short in the end. Seckman had an undefeated season and were 4 points favorites. You would have never believed that Dupo were underdogs by the way they played. We have a lot to look forward to in the future with this group of girls for our Varsity program. Congratulations girls on a good season and your second place finish in the playoffs. The final score was 16-10.
