The Cahokia Comanche’s Varsity football team aired it out Friday night as they cruised to a 42-0 victory over the Alton Redbirds. The Cahokia defense held up and the offense sputtered early but then warmed up quickly to run away with the victory.
Perhaps the story of the night was Junior Quarterback Patrick Ivy who completed 24 of 27 passes for 348 yards and 6 touchdowns with no interceptions. If it were an NFL game that would be a perfect passer rating of 158.3. He already had 263 yards passing and 4 touchdowns by halftime. Even more impressive was his ability to see the entire field throwing to eight different receivers and exhibiting great arm strength and touch as he threw long, short and intermediate passes. His favorite target for the night was the versatile Donald Collier who caught 6 passes for 143 yards, 3 for touchdowns and had an average of 23.8 yards per reception. Mizzou recruit Jimmie Hunt had 3 receptions for 21 yards and 1 touchdown. When the Comanche’s did run the football it was by committee using Joe Grinston, Rodney Scott and Patrick Ivy who combined to rush the ball 11 times for 84 yards.
The Cahokia defense did their part as well shutting out the Alton Redbird offense. It was a dominating performance by the Comanche defense that had difficulty stopping the run last week against O’Fallon. The Comanche defense limited the Redbird offense to just 21 yards rushing and 48 yards passing for the game. Erwin Fridge led the Comanche defense with 8 tackles and 2 assists while Jimmie Hunt was close behind with 7 tackles and 2 assists. Comanche defenders Demeiko Broaden, Dominic Cozart and Morris Hobson each had one quarterback sack. Henry Chambers had one fumble recovery and Donald Collier posted one interception.
The Comanche’s come back home next week to face the Lutheran North Crusaders on Friday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m. The Alton Redbirds have another large challenge facing them as they visit the Flyers of East St Louis on Friday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m.
