Was It Team vs. Team, or Donkeys vs. Teams?
The night of Wednesday the 27th proved to be all that it was billed to be “Got Game?” and so much more. The Junior Class sponsored a Dupo Donkey Basketball event that was absolutely hilarious. Although there were 4 teams playing each other, I’m not for sure if the real contest wasn’t teams against the donkeys. These little adorable donkeys appeared to have a mind of their own. Even though the riders had other intentions, the donkeys pretty much did want they wanted. Sometimes they would let you ride them, and other times they bucked you to the ground. As one of the players (riders), I simply wanted to survive the evening, forget about getting embarrassed because that happened soon after the game started.
The first game was our fine men in blue, the Dupo Police Department against the men & women of the cloth, Dupo Pastors. The Dupo officers were Kevin Smith, Ryan Corbin, Jeremy Zimmer, Will Robinson, Gary Craig, Lindell Barton & Chief Doug Keys; the Dupo Pastors players were Kim Kelly, Ron Hebel, Jarred Flowers, and Mike Sullivan. The Dupo Pastors said their prayers, not to win, but to just see another day, however, that was enough to streak by the Police Department 8-0 to win the first game.
The second game was our wonderful educators, the Jr. / Sr. High Teachers against the Bluffview Teachers. The Jr. / Sr. High School teachers were Brian Levin, Jill Puckett, Chris Wynne, Sarah Ruder, and Susan Kautzer; the Bluffview Teachers were Lea Thebeau, John Daab, Jerry Devany, Kevin Acra, and Sue Cawels. The game was a back and forth battle with lots of shooting with the Jr. & Sr. High Teachers coming out on top by the score of 8-4.
The Championship game was the Dupo Pastors against the Jr. /Sr. High Teachers. The will of the donkeys and the sharp shooting of the teachers proved to be more than us pastors could handle, with the teachers coming away as champions 6-2.
Overall this was a great, fun night for everyone, with the donkeys making fools of us players, and entertainment of a dance routine from the DHS Dancers. The young kids got to ride the donkeys at intermission, and lots of laughs. The Junior Class would like to thank everyone for coming out and making this a successful event and a special thank you to Jeff Sheehan who donated back $150+ he won in the 50/50 raffle drawing.
