5th Annual Halloween Dance 09’

Event Raises Money for Shop with a Cop

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Party revelers descended on the Dupo VFW Saturday, October 31st on Halloween night to celebrate while contributing to a good cause.  The 5th annual ‘Shop with a Cop Halloween Dance’ drew a good crowd of creepy ghouls and other assorted crazy’s who got together to dance the night away and help some needy kids in the Dupo area.

Music was provided by Joe & Kelly Dobronski of B&K Entertainment.  The fun was provided by those who attended.  But the lasting effects of the dance will be shown in the lives of the children helped by the money raised at the event.

‘Shop with a Cop’ began five years ago as a means to help provide needy children in the area with a good Christmas.  Children are identified and recommended by teachers, local clergy and others in the community.  Police officers look into the recommended cases to make sure they qualify for the assistance.  Dupo Police Officer and chairperson for the event Kevin Smith said, “Last year we took 84 kids representing 34 families. Wal Mart in Waterloo is our sponsor store, they donate a lot to our cause.  This year we’ll be going to shop on December 20th.”

The ‘Shop with a Cop’ effort holds two dances each year.  A Chicken and Beer dance in April and the Halloween dance in October.  Last year they raised $14,500.00 to help kids in the Dupo area.  If you would like to help you may send a donation to the Dupo Police Department or contact any police officer and ask about ‘Shop with a Cop’.
