The weatherman called for a cloudy day and rain free. He got the “no rain” part correct, but the day was filled with lots of sun, it was a perfect day for playing softball. The first game between United Red Storm and Tri-Valley Lady Viking’s went into extra inning, 11 innings to be exact. It was a well pitched game by both pitchers, with the United Red Storm scoring once in the 11th inning to advance to the finals.
The Lady Tigers played a tough game against the defending champions Cobden Appleknockers. The game was close until the fifth inning were Cobden scored three runs to open up a 4 run lead. Hope was never lost however, for the Lady Tigers had often scored 4 or 5 runs in one inning, and many fans were holding onto that hope, but that hope was dashed when the Tigers went one, two, three in the 7th inning.
Although this loss was disappointing for the Lady Tigers, they can hold their heads up high for the accomplishments of this season. They brought back to the school and town some excitement and Tiger Pride that has been lacking for the past few years. As a 1975 graduate of DCHS I can say that I am extremely proud of what the Lady Tigers have done this year, and I am sure that many within the community feel the same way.
Tomorrow morning (Saturday, June 6th) @ 9:30 am the Lady Tigers play for third place which is not to be taken lightly being the play-offs started with 64 teams. Now that we have resolved the computer malfunction, and as long as I stay away from fellow reporters from messing up my computer, we will attempt to give a play-by-play of the game once again. You can click on the link below to view that play-by-play coverage.
On Monday we will release a printed extra on the highlights of the play-offs and of the season as a whole with stats and pictures. Below we have a group of pictures to view of today’s event.
