Millstadt Consolidated School can hold its head up in scoring high on the State Report Card. Their score was up from last year’s score of 94.1 to a 95.2 score. Last year’s score landed them a second place ranking and have now received honors for 5 straight years according to principle Huwer. The district has a lot to celebrate about with this #1 ranking. This bodes well for the educational system set in place by District 160 and the teaching staff deserves the bulk of the credit for teaching and motivating the young minds of the Millstadt children. Children achieve high learning when teachers make learning fun, and that appears to be what is going on at MCS. When I was reporting a basketball game last night I spent some time looking through the trophy cases and I was surprised that many of the trophies and awards was for academics. It is certainly apparent that a whole lot of learning is being had in the classrooms of MCS.
Illinois State Board of Education's annual compilation of test scores from the Illinois Standards Achievement Test are evaluated to determine the progress of students that meet the adequate yearly progress standards established.
In viewing the test scores not only for Millstadt, there seemed to be a trend among the various districts as the grades get higher all the way up to the high school level. When I ask principle Huwer why that is, he said, “As the students get older and reach higher levels they loose interest.” This makes a whole lot of sense, but maybe the teachers of higher learning should take a couple of pages from the lower level teachers’ playbook. There is no reason why learning can’t be fun at a high school level, at least it should be tried to see what the outcome might bring.
Congratulation once again for a job well done!
