Although it was a cool, gloomy, and damp day the Millstadt Community Day went off without a hitch. It really felt like the start of the fall season, but overall it was a very pleasant afternoon to enjoy yourself in the park.

There where several businesses and organizations participating in this first community day. Each group had their own little niche of giveaways such as large soft pretzels, hot dogs, drinks, snow cones, hot wings, can coolers, work aprons, carry bags, face painting, cider, watermelon and so much more.

The police department had a demonstration with their K-9 unit, and the Venture Crew from the Boy Scouts giving a fencing demonstration. There was also some older vehicles on display including and old tractor.

This first time event was not as well attended as I am sure the organizers would have hoped for, but the weather certainly played a huge part of keeping many away. This day however was a building block for years to come, and will no doubt gain popularity.

For those who did not attend you really did miss a very enjoyable afternoon with lots of good food and many giveaways, and an opportunity in getting to know some of the area businesses and organizations. Plan on attending next years event, you won’t be disappointed.
