The Millstadt Primary Center hosted an assembly on Tuesday, November 10th in honor of the Veteran’s who served this country. The Millstadt VFW Post 7980 presented the colors as well as being introduced, stated the war that they served in. Principal Kevin Juhas directed the assembly to all the students and staff. He explained to the kids about the various military emblems that represent the different branches of the service, and showed the different flags of the U.S. Mr. Juhas told the story of “Old Glory” and projected a picture of a super flag that hanged over the side of the Hoover Dam, what an amazing sight.
Along with the story of ‘Old Glory’ it was explained what each part of the flag meant and the rules of displaying the flag. Mr. Juhas asked the student what you should do when a flag passes by you, like in a parade, and one young man stood up immediately and place his hand over his heart. It gives you hope when you see such a display that perhaps patriotism isn’t all lost.
It was mentioned that the Marines was celebrating a birthday, and all the kids said out loud, in unison, “Happy Birthday Marines.” Near the end of the assembly the principal played a video that honored our Veteran’s in pictures. The student were awed at some of the pictures they saw, with oh’s & awe’s at large ship & plans, and action scenes. It was a great tribute to our Veteran’s, and I commend the Principal and school for a job well done.
